About Andrew

Since early 2013 I have concentrated on establishing Lantern Quartet on the Cornish music scene and we are quickly garnering a good reputation backed by a network of venues and promoters who are keen to support us.

Besides the band my latest musical venture, in tandem with the Quartet’s other frontman, Ashley Height, is LQ Presents – a promotion enterprise that will bring top quality artists, predominantly from the South West, to play at prime locations in Cornwall.

I also run the weekly Tuesday Open Mic Night at Shipwrights as well as the Songwriters Sundae Open Mic at Jacob’s Ladder, both in Falmouth.

First steps…

I began playing guitar at fifteen but it was not until well into my twenties that I began to write songs, play and sing with any real commitment.

I followed the familiar progression that begins with  ’bedroom musician’, to playing in front of friends, then venturing out to open mic nights, before finally stepping out to playing gigs as a solo artist and forming a band. I released my first album, ‘Come on Over‘ in January 2013, some of which has been played on BBC Introducing.

Almost immediately upon starting to perform in public a chance conversation led me to me conceiving, setting-up and running the popular weekly Folk on Thursday at the Grapes in Falmouth, which I continued to do for the best part of a year. From this I learned about the arts of sound-engineering and event promotion, which now coupled with regular gigging make for a varied musical life.

The moral of this story is a mystery to me but it’s been fun so far.

If you would like to get in touch about booking a performance or putting on an event then please feel free.

Thanks for visiting, looking, reading, listening.
